How to make ecobricks

Steps to Make an Eco-brick:

Prepare the Bottle: Clean and completely dry a PET plastic bottle (transparent bottles are best). Remove the label.

Collect Plastic Waste: Gather clean, dry, non-recyclable plastic (e.g., candy wrappers, plastic bags, straws, packaging).

Cut and Stuff: Cut larger, harder plastics into smaller pieces to fit, then push them into the bottle.

Compact Tight: Use a stick (like a wooden spoon or bamboo rod) to pack the plastic down, ensuring no air pockets, especially in the base.

Check Density: Keep filling until the bottle is firm and cannot be squeezed. The density should be at least 0.33g/ml.You can check your density on our submissions page

Seal: Screw the cap on tightly.

Important Tips:

Keep it Dry/Clean: Moisture or food residue can create methane and mold inside the bottle.

Use Soft/Hard Mixture: Mix soft plastics (bags) with harder plastics to maximize density.

Safety: Do not force the stick too hard to avoid rupturing the bottle.
